I created Beastie based off of the Scotish folklore about Kelpie's.  The overall look I had wanted to capture was for her mane to be created out of seaweed, her body was to be modeled after the Friesian horse breed and have the color, texture, and feel like slick oil/slimy, and her tail was to cut off into a big fin like a fish.  I wanted to keep a creepy factor by having her face sort of decaying and skull-like with horns.

The legend of the Kelpie is that they were believed to inhabit the rivers and small bodies of water in Scotland and other parts of Europe, and bribed children to ride on top of them.  Once the child was touching the Kelpie in any way, their bodies would get stuck and glued to the Kelpie due to their slink and slimy nature, where they would then drag them down to the bottom of the water, causing the victim to drown.
